Lana learns from home

November 20th, 2020

Under the approving gaze of her mom, Lana [alias name], 5 years old, learns from home. She is applying ‘I Learn From Home’ distance learning activities conceived by Seenary Organization for the project Back to the Future.

Lana learns from home

Since August, She is registered at Terre des Hommes Italy center in Souk EL Gharb, in Early Childhood Education.

Today her lesson is about domestic animals . ‘Lana is very active in remote learning’, affirms her teacher. ‘When I ask her for a homework such as writing a letter, she does it right away and adds even more details to it’. According to her teacher, ‘Lana’s progress is obvious as she is spelling English words’.

Lana doesn’t have siblings but enjoys the company of so many friends and is very popular in her neighborhood. What’s special about her, however, is that once she receives the educational video, she asks her friends to leave her alone so she can take her time to study.

Undoubtedly, she misses school. ‘Why can’t I see my teacher face to face so she can explain to me about COVID 19 virus’?, inquires the child. But until then, Lana adapts. No time to waste, she takes upon herself the role of the teacher, and starts explaining the lesson to her mom!

Lana loves to draw and swim and dreams of sharing a classroom with other children. “She is so smart and asks a lot”, admit her parents, sharing the enthusiasm of their child. ‘It’s her first learning experience and she’s always eager to know more.”

Back-to-the Future activities are funded by the European Union in Lebanon through the EU Fund Madad, and implemented by Terre des Hommes Italy, AVSI and War Child Holland.
