Austrian man sentenced to 8 years in prison in Nepal for child abuse

On the 5th of December 2018, 47 year old Austrian man was sentenced to 8 years in prison in Nepal for sexual abuse of underage boys. The man was on remand ever since his arrest in September 2017. The child abuser was arrested after almost a year and a half of research and observation by researchers of our local partner organisation.

Caught in the act of sexual abuse

The suspect was caught in the act on 6 September 2017 in a hotel room in the capital city of Kathmandu, in the presence of a 14-year-old boy. Three boys have eventually reported to the police and during the trial, have testified about what happened to them. In addition to the prison sentence, the child abuser has to pay about 900 US dollars to each of the three victims.

Judicial process against sexual abuse perpetrator

The victims and their families received legal support from a Terre des Hommes Netherlands partner organisation during the judicial process. One of the three boys is still staying in an emergency shelter. He does not feel safe enough staying at home. All three boys receive social and educational support through Terre des Hommes Netherlands and go to school.
