Large number of Syrian children don't attend school

Only half of the 4 million children in Syria will return to school this month. Also 700,000 Syrian children that fled to surrounding countries will not receive education. This was reported by UNICEF.

One-third of the school buildings have been rendered useless because of the 7 year war. This is partly because the buildings were destroyed or damaged during bombardments, and partly because buildings are used for other purposes, such as living space for families and military use. The 700,000 Syrian children that fled to surrounding countries will not receive education predominantly because there is no money for it.

Increased risk of child trafficking and child labour

Children that don't attend school run an increased risk of falling victim to child trafficking and the 'worst kinds of child labour'.

Terre des Hommes, together with other aid organisations helps Syrian refugee children in Lebanon and Jordan to get back to school with thet programme Back to the Future.
