Hundreds of thousands of refugee children from Syria are awaiting peace in Lebanon and Joran so they can return to their homes. Nearly the same amount of children is also waiting to go to school: a whole generation grows up without much hope of a better future.

In the past year, 800 children in Asia who fell victim to sexual exploitation receive supports to alleviate the trauma caused by their experiences. The children were abused by child sex tourists, forced to have webcam sex, or were sexually exploited in other ways.

In recent media coverage alleged illegal intercountry adoptions, which took place during the 1970s and 1980s formed a central theme. Children from the Tongi district in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, were adopted by families in the Netherlands. Terre des Hommes Netherlands was working in Tongi from the 1970s to 2010 to structurally improve the lives of children in Bangladesh.

295 children saved from the sex industry in East Africa

In the second half of 2016, Terre des Hommes has helped 282 girls and 13 boys to get out of the sex industry in East Africa. The children received counselling and, if necessary, were looked after. The children were also provided assistance in going back to school and finding alternative sources of income.

Ook Nederlanders betalen voor webcamseks met kinderen in de Filippijnen. Dat bleek vorige week opnieuw, toen een 34-jarige inwoner van IJmuiden werd aangehouden in zijn woning. Hij zou tegen betaling op bestelling meisjes op de Filippijnen voor de webcam laten misbruiken.
