Intern to support the implementation of child club pilot in Siem Reap province

Terre des Hommes Netherlands is looking for an Intern to support the implementation of child club pilot in Siem Reap province, Cambodia.

1. Background of Terre des Hommes Netherlands

Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH-NL) is a development organisation dedicated to the protection of children from exploitation. TdH-NL's work on child exploitation covers: (a) the Worst Forms of Child Labour; (b) Child Trafficking; (c) Sexual Exploitation of Children; (d) Child Abuse. TdH-NL strives to prevent child exploitation, remove children from exploitative situations and ensure that they can develop in a secure, healthy and supportive environment.

TdH-NL works with a holistic approach to combat child exploitation, which is reflected in the organisation’s Theory of Change. To bring about the desired change and create an environment in which children are protected, we first analyse the long-term causes and medium-term barriers for change, as well as the potential to bring about change. Within this context, we identify key actors that can play a constructive role in this change process. 

At present, the Cambodia Country Office is implementing 3 projects related to Sexual Exploitation of Children related to Travel and Tourism (SECTT), Online Child Sexual Exploitation (OCSE) and Ealry Child Marriage (ECM) in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap and Mondulkiri. This assignment is related to our Working Actively Together for Children (WATCH) project which is primarily located in Siem Reap and focuses on SECTT.

2. Objectives of the Assignment

  • Main objectives

The overall objective of the service to be provided is to support the implementation of awareness raising activities towards children vulnerable to SECTT and OCSE within the WATCH project.

  • Specific objectives
  1. Support TDH staff in mobilizing children and youth for the implementation of community-based and school-based events and the organization of cluster events.
  2. Support TDH staff and youth volunteers in preparing and facilitating participatory sessions in communities and schools.
  3. Motivate children to develop Communications  for Development materials.
  4. Be a focal point to collect feedback and queries from youth volunteers and child club members and report it to the TDH staff.
  5. Support the documentation of all project activities related to awareness raising.
  6. Actively contribute to learning sessions organized on a weekly and monthly basis.

5. Roles and responsibilities

1.1. Making phone calls to youth volunteers and child club members before the sessions and events

1.2. Assist TDH staff and volunteers to prepare venues and materials

2.1. Engage in session activities to motivate participants and volunteers

2.2. Co-facilitate activities and games during sessions

3.1. Provide online support for children to post their own photos and videos on social media - through the phone, Facebook and Messenger

4.1. Assist TDH staff and volunteers to conduct feedback activities - i.e. ask probing questions, take notes

4.2. Be available on the phone and online to collect additional feedback

5.1. Assist with administrative task - i.e. attendance list, distribution of travel allowance and per diem

5.2. Support monthly data collection and recording of activities and learnings (taking and uploading pictures, data entry, etc.)

6.1. Share personal learnings, challenges and propose solutions during regular reflection sessions with TDH staff and youth volunteers 

6. Time period and Geographical area

This internship is based in Siem Reap, from September to December 2020. The estimated time to complete the above roles and responsibilities is 8 days per month, 8 hours a day. However, in order to adapt to the availability of youth volunteers and child members, working hours will be flexible and partly on weekends.

9. Allowance

The intern will receive an allowance of 80 USD  (negotiable). All expenses related to this  assignment will be reimbursed by TDH on the basis of internal policies and submission of relevant invoices. In addition, TDH will purchase an insurance for the intern in case of any accident during the duration of the assignment.

10. Ethics and Child Safeguarding Policy

The Intern shall not share any document provided by TDH-NL to third parties without prior agreement and shall keep all personal information related to project participants confidential. 

The Intern shall sign and abide by Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH-NL) Child Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct against corruption, bribery and fraud and its related procedures.

Before the start of the assignment, the Intern will receive specific training on TDH internal policies.

11. Profile

  • Grade 12 or Graduate student
  • Strong interest to work on child protection
  • Positive attitude and good communication skills
  • Curious and eager to improve skills in facilitation and social work
  • Well organized and with attention to detail
  • English speaking skills are an asset
  • Basic computer skills (use of email and Google drive applications) are and asset

12. Supervision / Management of the Assignment

The intern will be placed under the supervision of the WATCH Project Officers.
