Vrijwilliger Mica Programma

Join the fight against child exploitation, enjoy new experiences and meet like minded people. Do you want to put your time, energy and skills towards a worthy cause? Become a volunteer at Terre des Hommes! Volunteering at Terre des Hommes is a two-way street. You share however much time you can, when you can, we provide a pleasant environment and work that fulfils you.

About Terre des Hommes

The Netherlands wants to prevent child exploitation, to get children out of exploitation situations and to ensure that these children can continue their development in a safe environment. Terre des Hommes Nederland focuses on stopping sexual exploitation of children, the worst forms of child labor, child trafficking and migration, sexual and reproductive health and rights and child protection in humanitarian crises. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes develops and implements projects and programs through local partners, mainly in Asia and Africa.

Context of the Mica Programme

Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH-NL) has been implementing the Mica Programme since 2015, which aims to eradicate worst forms child labour (WFCL) in the mica supply chain. The programme is implemented in India and Madagascar, as well as having a Global programme component. In mica mining communities we eliminate child labour through child empowerment, education, alternative livelihoods and lobby and advocacy activities. In the Global component we work with downstream private sector actors and conduct lobby and advocacy activities.

The mica team consists of staff based in the India Country Office, Madagascar Country Office and Head Office (supported by the Regional Office East Africa and Regional Office Asia). The volunteer will work most closely with staff based at the Head Office, particularly the Programme Manager, Programme Coordinator and Technical Advisor.

How are you going to make impact

You will support the Head Office mica team on selected activities. The goals, deliverables and outcomes will be agreed on with the volunteer, based on the available time commitment and experience and skills of the volunteer. Example activities are:

  • Support resource mobilisation through donor mapping, identifying grants and contributing to proposals.
  • Contribute to the design and facilitation of periodic learning and exchange meetings with mica project teams.
  • Support the design of project evaluations.
  • Support planning and reporting processes, both internally and for donors.
  • Maintain and organise programme documents and files on Google Drive
  • Other ad hoc tasks, upon mutual agreement and experience.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal command of English language.
  • Analytical skills, preferably with focus on policy analysis and stakeholder analysis.
  • Time management and planning.

What do you get in return

We can promise you an exciting and fun time in our team where you will have plenty of opportunity to use and develop your skills in a friendly and supportive team. Where desired, we also encourage our volunteers to further develop their skills by getting involved in our other events and activities.
