Children from families living in poverty go to school less often. They are extra vulnerable to forced labour, forced marriage and abuse as well as sexual and other types of exploitation.
We ensure that children get an education so they can eventually find jobs to earn better incomes. We educate their parents and communities. Children have rights to protection, to an education and to build a better future.
To prevent children from being exploited, we help families find additional or new sources of income. Join our fight. Stop child exploitation.
As of January 2021, Kenya hosts over 508,000 refugees and asylum seekers fleeing conflict in neighbouring countries, including more than 273,151 from Somalia, 125,351 from South Sudan, 45,632 from DRC, 29,379 from Ethiopia and a sum total of 34,529 from Burundi, Sudan, Uganda, Eritrea, Rwanda and others. The majority of refugees are staying in Dadaab camp (44%) in the southeast, Kakuma camp (40%) in the northwest, and the rest (16%) in urban areas such as Nairobi.
In the big city a lot of girls are forced to work in prostitution at a young age. In bars, hotels, brothels and along the road. The growing number of street children is also causing a sharp increase in the sexual exploitation of children.
Nearly 2 million children are forced to work in Kenya. Often because their parents do not have enough money. They do not go to school and cannot build a better future. We fight against this form of exploitation. We provide education, a safe environment, help to families and a future. Join the fight.
Child trafficking is common in Kenya. The rapid growth of large cities such as Nairobi are important causes. Many children move from the poor countryside to the big cities. Hoping to find work or education there.
These children usually end up in dangerous situations, in brothels or as house slaves in the slums. We fight against child trafficking. By protecting them. Join the fight.
TdH works in the Dadaab refugee camps (including Ifo, Dagahaley and in Hagadera), as well as with the host communities.
At Dadaab, TdH is one of the Key Child Protection implementing partners. With the aim to strengthen the child protection system our key activities include mental health and psychosocial support, case management, cash and voucher assistance to vulnerable families and community capacity strengthening.
We do our humanitarian action in Dadaab through the partnership and generous support from the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO).
