Taslima (18) was married off at the age of seventeen. She had to leave school and soon got pregnant. Her poor health forced her to terminate the pregnancy prematurely. Taslima received no support from her husband and was even battered by his family. The insecure Taslima fell into a depression. These days, the life of this girl from Bangladesh has changed considerably. With the help of a social worker, she became a confident tailor.
Taslima’s story is not exceptional in Asia. Forced child marriages, teenage pregnancies, sexual abuse and violence against girls and women occur frequently. Child marriages are a ‘common’ phenomenon.
Terre des Hommes protects children like Taslima. We take care of them, make sure they can go to school and educate communities on the negative impact of traditions such as child marriages. We also work together with boys and girls to increase their resilience, thereby empowering them to protect themselves against violence.
Your support is essential. Help children like Taslima. Stop child exploitation. Donate now!
