JOINT STATEMENT ON THE ADVERSE IMPACTS OF COVID-19 ON CHILD PROTECTION June 12, 2020

In late 2019, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case happened in China and it has now infected millions and killed hundreds of thousands of people in than 200 countries and territories around the globe. A vaccine against the disease is desperately needed, because otherwise there will always be a risk that new outbreaks of the disease will emerge. Until a vaccine widely available, monitor the spread of COVID-19 through monitoring, testing, contact tracing and quarantine or other lockdown restrictions where necessary are the keys in Cambodia as well as in other countries. Covid-19 has caused adverse impacts across almost every sector, in particular the health, education, tourism, economic, and industrial sectors. The COVID-19 has been having a detrimental impact on the development of ASEAN countries, posing a direct threat to the livelihoods of the people.
