Lawsuit against State, adoption organization Wereldkinderen and Terre des Hommes
Today the lawsuit of a woman adopted from Bangladesh against the Dutch State, adoption organization Wereldkinderen and Terre des Hommes is pending at the court in The Hague. She believes that her adoption in the 1970s was made illegally and holds Terre des Hommes partly responsible. The court will rule this autumn.
Background
Terre des Hommes has extensively investigated its involvement and others have also investigated it. The allegations have never been established. We do not consider ourselves responsible for the alleged abuses during the 1970s adoptions in Bangladesh.
As a children's rights organization we sympathize with the people involved, who were adopted as children during that period. That is why we have offered this group of people help in looking for their relatives in Bangladesh. This runs through a project that is currently being set up in collaboration with the interest groups of this group of adoptees.
