The Danger of the Devadasi System

August 5th, 2020

Kudligi is a town in North Karnataka, India where the Devadasi system is commonly practiced. There are more than 230 Devadasi families in the area. Girls and women from Devadasi families participate in traditional folk dance, earning a small income in return. Usually these girls and young women are managed by senior Devadasi women and men who take advantage and sexually exploit them.
