Leonard Zijlstra is leaving Terre des Hommes Netherlands as Managing Director

August 8th, 2022

Our director Leonard Zijlstra will be leaving the organisation. Leonard has been absent for a long time due to a lengthy recovery following a cycling accident last September. In consultation between the Supervisory Board and Leonard, it has now been decided that Leonard will not return to the organisation after his recovery

Leonard Zijlstra neemt afscheid als directeur van Terre des Hommes Nederland

We would like to thank Leonard for his enormous efforts and commitment to the foundation, first as Manager Lobby, Expertise & Programmes and later as General Director. In his first position, Leonard led programmes in the field and held responsibilities in the areas of innovation, alliance building, lobbying, advocacy, programming and fundraising. In his management position, he was at the foundation of a future-proof organisation with a revised strategy and the prelude to implementation. In addition, he was also responsible for the settlement of a number of complex files that gave the organisation the opportunity to make a cultural change. In both roles, he has deployed his broad knowledge and expertise and good reputation for our organisation.

Leonard: “I would like to take this opportunity to warmly thank everyone who has supported me in recent months with the many flowers, cards and other gifts. This encouragement has done me a lot of good in my recovery and I am ready for a new challenge outside Terre des Hommes”.

As a result of this departure, the Supervisory Board will now look for a new General Manager for Terre des Hommes in the Netherlands. The current interim director Tjipke Bergsma will stay on at TdH NL until the end of 2022. On behalf of the Supervisory Board of TdH NL and all staff members we wish Leonard every success in continuing his career.
