Terre des Hommes deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine

February 25th, 2022

Like many people in the world, Terre des Hommes is shocked by the war that has erupted in Ukraine, as a result of the invasion by Russian troops. The invasion is an extreme violation of international law. From 2016 to 2018, together with our sister organization Terre des Hommes Lausanne, we provided emergency assistance to affected children and families in Eastern Ukraine, then already the scene of violence between separatists and the Ukrainian army. Terre des Hommes calls on European states and all involved to do everything possible to end the violence, prevent civilian casualties and provide emergency assistance and shelter to those affected.

With our partners, we are exploring options to provide assistance to those affected

The escalation of violence, which seemed announced for weeks but still came unexpectedly, has enormous consequences for the civilian population and especially for children. These days, the stress and grief for them is incredible. In times of war, the risks for vulnerable children increase, such as the risk of extreme poverty and exploitation.

With our sister organizations united in the Terre des Hommes international movement, we are looking at the possibility of providing shelter and assistance for the victims.

See here about the emergency assistance provided (from 2016 - 2018) through the Dutch Relief Alliance. Terre des Hommes organized safe places and child-friendly places for children in schools (protection) and provided 600 families with monthly money (cash distributions).
