The Netherlands donates €9.8m to Giro555 campaign
In the past 3 days, donors across the Netherlands contributed €9.8 million to the Giro555 campaign “Together for Ukraine”. The organisations behind the campaign will use the donations to provide immediate, vital humanitarian assistance such as shelter, medical care, and water to affected Ukrainians. “It’s heart warming to see the Dutch empathy for Ukrainians. These donations enable us to provide critical help. At the same time, we realise that Ukraine will need our assistance in the long-term. That’s why we want to emphasize that all donations are most welcome,” says Kees Zevenbergen, chair of the Giro555 campaign.

Millions of people need humanitarian assistance. “Think about the people in air-raid shelters in Ukraine. Or women and children fleeing the conflict. They urgently need shelter, food and water. They need medical and psychosocial care, because the violence they see will leave its mark,” concludes Kees Zevenbergen.
The Giro555 organisations are already providing immediate humanitarian assistance: Terre des Hommes is recruiting for mobile teams in the neighbouring countries, to set up child friendly spaces and baby corners in reception centers. Cordaid is serving soup at parking lots along the border. Stichting Vluchteling is arranging buses to take people to other parts of Poland. The Red Cross has set up aid stations and shelters in schools near the Polish border in Ukraine. And Plan International is helping to set up mobile medical teams.

When major disasters occur, the 11 aid organisations behind the campaign join forces under the Giro555 banner. They ask the Netherlands to join them in raising money for victims – because together we save more lives. The aid organisations that make up Giro555: Stichting Vluchteling, Cordaid, CARE Nederland, Kerk in Actie, Oxfam Novib, Save the Children, UNICEF Nederland, Nederlandse Rode Kruis, Plan International, Terre des Hommes and World Vision. .
