The Role
We are seeking a driven and strategic Philantropy Specialist to lead our efforts in engaging high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), major donors, and family trusts. This role is pivotal in securing transformative gifts of €50,000 and above, expanding our philanthropic income base, and building long-term relationships that support our mission to end child exploitation.
You will cultivate and steward relationships with top-tier donors, develop personalised engagement strategies, and work closely with internal teams to translate programme impact into compelling funding opportunities. This is a high-impact role for someone passionate about child protection and experienced in major donor fundraising.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with HNWIs and major donors capable of five- and six-figure gifts;
- Set and achieve ambitious annual income and pipeline targets for major gifts and pledges;
- Develop tailored fundraising strategies aligned with donor interests and organisational priorities;
- Coordinate and lead donor meetings, prepare proposals, and secure long-term commitments;
- Build meaningful relationships through personalised communication and impact reporting;
- Research and engage family foundations and philanthropic trusts aligned with TdH NL’s mission;
- Prepare persuasive proposals and concept notes that motivate significant financial support;
- Manage a portfolio of major donors and foundations, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting;
- Lead major gift campaigns and donor events, including gala dinners and private briefings;
- Maintain donor records in Salesforce, ensuring accurate documentation and strategic follow-up;
- Collaborate with the Director of Engagement to test and scale innovative donor engagement approaches;
- Ensure all fundraising efforts are grounded in programme evidence, impact, and learning.
What You Bring
- Proven experience securing six-figure and multi-year gifts from HNWIs and philanthropic trusts;
- Demonstrated success in expanding donor networks and cultivating new relationships;
- Strong relationship-building and strategic communication skills;
- Experience developing and executing donor engagement strategies that drive revenue growth;
- Track record of meeting or exceeding income targets through proactive relationship management;
- Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce) and data-driven fundraising approaches;
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in identifying and pursuing opportunities;
- Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for team-driven success;
- Deep commitment to child protection and the mission of Terre des Hommes Netherlands;
- Excellent command of Dutch and English, both written and spoken.

- The salary scale for this position is scale 11 and, depending on experience, ranges from €4.293,90 to €5.607,90 gross per month for a full-time 36-hour workweek.
- 25 days of paid annual leave based on a full-time contract; pro rata for part-time employees;
- We work hybrid: 50% at the office and 50% from home. We are quite flexible and value your work-life balance;
- An office located in the vibrant heart of The Hague, the city of international human rights and the political capital;
- A commuting allowance for cycling kilometres or an NS public transport card;
- Our pension scheme is managed by ASR, with Terre des Hommes covering the majority of the pension contribution.
